Dr. Liliana Gandini earned her dental degree in Bogota, Colombia. In addition, she received her Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the University of Puerto Rico. She completed a two-year program in advanced education in general dentistry as well as post-graduate periodontal specialty training at the Eastman Dental Center, University of Rochester, in 1993.
During her periodontal training, Dr. Gandini was actively involved in several clinical research projects with emphasis in aggressive forms of periodontitis and guided tissue regeneration. She served as clinical professor at the Eastman Dental Center and the University of Puerto Rico. She has published various scientific articles in peer-reviewed periodontal journals. Dr. Gandini has practiced periodontics and implant surgery for 20 years. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
Dr. Gandini is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology (board certified), and a member of the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Periodontology, the North Carolina Dental Society, the North Carolina Society of Periodontists, and the Durham-Orange County Dental Society. She was also recently appointed as consulting associate professor of surgery (periodontics and dental implants) at Duke University.
Dr. Gandini is passionate about her profession and enjoys providing periodontal health to her patients. She practices a full array of periodontal procedures, including non-surgical and surgical techniques to treat all types of periodontal diseases, cosmetic periodontal procedures, placement and repair of implants, ridge augmentation, sinus lift, canine exposures, gingival grafting including tunneling technique, atraumatic extractions and site preservation, crown lengthening, and biopsies. Dr. Gandini uses the latest technology in 3D imaging and offers the alternative of oral sedation for patients who desire it.
Dr. Santiago and Dr. Gandini live in Chapel Hill with their two children, Laura and Mario. They enjoy golf, tennis, music, and traveling.
